Testimonials
K.J.KVerified Trip to never forget Me and my partner did a 4 day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga and back. During the trip, we passed through the Atlas Mountains and stopped at Ait Ben Haddou, which was interesting to see. The drives were long but broken up with stops, so it never felt too tiring. We spent one night in a desert camp in Merzouga. The camp was comfortable, the food was good, and in the evening there was Berber music around the fire. We also enjoyed the camel ride and watching the sunset over the dunes. On the way back, we stopped in Ouarzazate and a few small villages. Overall, it was a well-organized trip and a good way to experience different parts of Morocco. The 4-Day Marrakech to Merzouga Itinerary
Here is the plan for our 4 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga desert. This is what we suggest but remember you can look at the detailed program for each day and tell us if you want to change anything you do not like. Just contact us and feel free to tell us what you like or what you do not like.
Day 1: Marrakech City ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Skoura ⇢ Dades Gorges
Your journey begins early at 8:00 AM from your Riad or Hotel in Marrakech. Our first major highlight is crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, standing at an elevation of 2,260 meters. Have your camera ready; we will make multiple stops to photograph the jaw-dropping mountain views and traditional Berber villages hugging the slopes.
We continue to Ouarzazate—the Hollywood of Africa—where we will pause for a delicious local lunch. From there, we drive into the lush Skoura Oasis, famous for its dense palm groves and ancient Kasbahs, including a photo opportunity at Kasbah Amridil. Finally, we travel through the aromatic Valley of Roses before arriving at the spectacular Dades Gorges in the evening. You will enjoy a hearty Moroccan dinner and a comfortable night’s rest at your beautiful Dades Valley hotel.
Day 2: Dades Gorges ⇢ Todra Canyon ⇢ Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, our desert adventure continues. We drive through the remaining stretches of the Dades Valley before arriving at the magnificent Todra Gorges. Here, you can take a refreshing walk between sheer rock walls that reach 300 meters high.
Afterward, the landscape begins to change dramatically as we approach the desert. We will stop for lunch along the route before arriving in the town of Merzouga. Knowing the best things to do in Merzouga starts with the iconic camel trek. In the late afternoon, you will meet your camel and ride into the towering orange sand dunes of Erg Chebbi as the sun sets. You will arrive at your Sahara desert camp where you will be treated to a traditional Moroccan dinner, live Berber drum music around the campfire, and an incredibly bright, starlit sky.
Day 3: Merzouga ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Agdez ⇢ Ouarzazate City
Wake up early—watching the sunrise over the Sahara dunes is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After enjoying breakfast at the camp, you will ride your camel (or take a 4×4) back to the edge of the dunes in Merzouga.
Our journey back towards Ouarzazate follows a completely different, equally stunning route. Our first stop is the historically rich town of Rissani, a former major hub for trade caravans. If it is a local market day, we will wander through the bustling authentic Souk. We then continue to Agdez, driving parallel to the magnificent Draa Valley, home to thousands of date palms and historic kasbahs. We will stop for panoramic photos before finally arriving in Ouarzazate for dinner and an overnight hotel stay.
Day 4: Ouarzazate ⇢ Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah ⇢ Telouet Kasbah ⇢ Marrakech City
After breakfast, we begin the final day of our tour with a visit to the famous Kasbah Taourirt in Ouarzazate. Next, we head to the crown jewel of southern Moroccan architecture: the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. Take your time exploring this massive, fortified mud-brick village that has served as the backdrop for Game of Thrones and many blockbuster films.
Following a scenic lunch overlooking the Kasbah, we begin our drive back to Marrakech, including an optional stop at the hauntingly beautiful, partially ruined Telouet Kasbah. We cross the High Atlas Mountains once more, arriving back in Marrakech by early evening. Once back in the Red City, we highly recommend checking out the best rooftops for sunset in Marrakech to celebrate the end of your tour, and exploring our guide on what to eat in Marrakech for your final dinner!

- Currency & Payments: While large hotels might accept cards, local cafes and small shops will not. Learn more about what currency is used in Morocco and the nuances of paying in Morocco. We highly advise bringing Dirhams in cash.

Extend Your Moroccan Adventure

The best slow journey from Fes to Marrakech. Enjoy two nights in the Sahara desert, meet local nomad families, and explore the high Atlas mountains and old Kasbahs at a very relaxed pace.

A beautiful slow trip from Fes to the Red City. You will see the monkeys in the cedar forest and spend more time in the Sahara dunes. Visit local Berber families, see the high Todra Gorges, and explore the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah before you arrive in Marrakech.

A wonderful choice to see the best of the south. You will cross the High Atlas, explore many old Berber villages, and have plenty of time for camel trekking and desert nights in Merzouga. This trip is very relaxed so you can see the real Morocco without any rush.
