DAY 1: FES ⇢ IFRANE ⇢ MIDLLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ ZIZ VALLEY ⇢ MERZOUGA
We start our long day from Fes very early, around 7:30 in the morning is a good time. We drive south towards the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Ifrane. This city looks like a small town in Europe, with its clean streets and houses, it is very surprising. We will stop there for a short time to take some nice pictures. After Ifrane, we drive to the Cedar Forest near Azrou. Here you will stop to see the wild Barbary Monkeys. They are very friendly and fun, but please do not feed them too much food.
We continue driving and cross the Atlas Mountains. The road has beautiful views, with big green mountains and sometimes you see snow in winter. We will stop for lunch in Midelt or a village near there. You will eat some traditional food, maybe a tasty chicken tagine. After lunch, the road starts to change very much. The scenery becomes more dry and more desert-like, this is exciting.
The most beautiful part comes when we see the Ziz Valley. This is a big green river valley with many, many palm trees. You will stop at a high point to see the whole panorama of the valley, it is impressive and a good photo stop. Then, we drive straight to Merzouga village which is next to the sand dunes. You meet your camel guide and start the camel trekking into the Erg Chebbi dunes. The camel ride is about one hour at sunset, beautiful colors everywhere. When you arrive at the camp, you will have a nice dinner and listen to Berber drumming music around the campfire before sleeping in your tent.
DAY 2: Merzouga Desert ⇢ Rissani ⇢ Fes
You should wake up early today, before the sun comes up. The sunrise over the dunes is the best part of the whole trip, don’t miss it. After taking pictures, you have breakfast at the camp. Then you ride your camel again back to Merzouga village where our driver is waiting for you. Or, you can choose to drive back in the 4×4 car if you are tired of riding the camel, just tell your guide. We meet the car and start the long drive back to Fes city.
We drive towards Rissani. This town is very important because it is the old capital and a big trading center. If the day is a market day, Tuesdays, Thursdays, or Sundays, we can stop quickly to see the real local life, it is interesting to see. After Rissani, we drive north. We pass through different landscapes and mountains again. The drive is long but very comfortable in our private car.
We will stop for lunch on the way, maybe in a small town called Zaida or somewhere similar in the mountain area. Your driver knows the good places to stop for food and to use the clean bathroom. We continue the drive and arrive in Fes in the evening, usually around 7:00 PM or 7:30 PM, depending on traffic. Your driver will drop you off at your Riad or hotel in Fes city. It was a short but good adventure in the Moroccan desert.

- In the desert, the weather changes a lot. During the day, it is very hot. But when the sun goes down, it can be very cold, even in summer. Please pack warm clothes, like a light jacket or a sweater, to wear at night in the camp.
- The camel ride is safe, but it can be a little uncomfortable for some people. We suggest wearing long trousers and closed shoes for your feet. Do not wear skirts or flip-flops for the camel ride, you will be much happier, trust us.
