DAY 1: Marrakech - High Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley

Your 4 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour starts with morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. We begin by crossing the High Atlas Mountains through the famous Tizi n’Tichka pass, one of the most scenic roads in Morocco. Along the way, you enjoy mountain views, Berber villages, and photo stops in beautiful panoramic places.

The main visit of the day is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most famous kasbahs in Morocco. This old mud village is known for its unique architecture and has been used as a filming location for movies and series like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You will have time to walk through the kasbah, see the old houses, and learn why this place was important on the ancient caravan route.

After lunch near Ait Ben Haddou, we continue toward Dades Valley. On the way, we pass Ouarzazate, often called the Hollywood of Africa, and drive through the Valley of Roses, known for its rose products and peaceful landscapes. Before reaching your hotel, you will see the special rock formations of Dades, also called the “monkey fingers.” Dinner and overnight stay will be in the Dades Gorges area.

DAY2: Dades Valley - Tinghir Oasis - Todgha Canyon - Merzouga Desert

After breakfast, we leave Dades Gorges and drive toward Todra Gorge, one of the most impressive natural places in Morocco. The road passes palm groves, Berber villages, and rocky valleys before reaching the high canyon walls. You will have time to walk inside the gorge, enjoy the fresh air, and take photos between the dramatic cliffs.

We then continue toward Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Along the way, the landscape slowly changes from mountains and valleys to open desert plains. Before the camel trek, you may stop to get a traditional Berber scarf, useful for protection from the sun and sand.

In the afternoon, you meet your camels and ride into the golden dunes of Merzouga. This is one of the best moments of the tour, especially during sunset when the sand changes color. You arrive at your desert camp, enjoy dinner, listen to Berber music around the fire, and spend the night under a clear Sahara sky.

DAY 3: Merzouga Exploration with 4x4

Today is a full desert discovery day in Merzouga. We recommend waking up early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, one of the most peaceful moments of the tour. After breakfast at the camp, we start a 4×4 off-road tour around the desert area.

During the day, you visit nomadic Berber families who still live in the desert and learn about their simple daily life. You also visit Khamlia village, known for its Gnaoua music, a traditional style with African roots and strong rhythms. Depending on the season, we may also visit Mefis, an old mining village, and the seasonal Lake of Birds if there is water.

After lunch, we return to your riad in Merzouga. The afternoon is free to relax, walk near the dunes, or enjoy the swimming pool. Dinner and overnight stay will be at your riad or desert camp, depending on your choice.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA ⇢ ZIZ VALLEY ⇢ IFRANE ⇢ FES

In the 4th day which is the last one we leave Merzouga and start the journey north toward Fes. The first major stop is Ziz Valley, one of the largest palm valleys in Morocco. From the panoramic viewpoint, you can see thousands of palm trees stretching between the mountains, a beautiful contrast after the desert landscapes.

We continue through the Middle Atlas Mountains, with a lunch stop around Midelt. The road then takes us through cedar forests near Azrou, where you may see wild Barbary monkeys. This part of Morocco feels very different from the Sahara, with cooler weather, green forests, and mountain scenery.

Before arriving in Fes, we stop in Ifrane, a clean mountain town known for its European-style buildings and alpine atmosphere. After a short break for coffee or photos, we continue to Fes. Your driver will drop you off at your hotel or riad, and your 4 days Marrakech to Fes desert tour ends.

Yes, there are. For the regular camp, there is a shared bathroom and shower area. If you choose our luxury camp option, your tent will have its own private bathroom and hot shower inside. Please tell us when you book if you want the luxury camp.

The best time to go is from September to May. These months have very nice weather. The desert is warm and sunny in the day and the night is cool, good for sleeping. If you come in July and August, it is very, very hot, sometimes too hot for the desert. Winter months (like December to February) are also good, but the nights are cold, so bring a warm jacket.

The camel ride is about 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes in the afternoon. This is to get you into the camp and see the beautiful sunset. In the morning, you ride the camel back to the car, it is a similar time. If you do not want to ride the camel, you can use the 4×4 car to go to and from the desert camp, that is fine.

This tour is private. You travel with your own driver/guide in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle.

You spend one night in the Dades Gorges area, one night in a desert camp in Merzouga, and one night in a riad or camp in Merzouga, depending on your choice.
