Daily Itinerary

Here is the day-by-day itinerary for your 5 days Morocco tour from Marrakech to Merzouga. This plan shows the main places you will visit, the experiences included, and what to expect each day.

DAY 1: MARRAKECH ⇢ HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH ⇢ DADES VALLEY

Your 5 days Morocco tour starts with pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. We leave the busy city and drive through the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass at 2,260 meters. Along the way, you will enjoy beautiful mountain views, Berber villages, and scenic photo stops.

The main visit of the day is Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah and one of Morocco’s most famous historic villages. After exploring its old mud houses and movie-famous streets, we continue through Ouarzazate, Rose Valley, and the Road of 1000 Kasbahs.

By evening, we arrive in Dades Valley, known for its dramatic landscapes, red rock formations, and peaceful mountain atmosphere. Dinner and overnight stay are in a local hotel in the valley.

DAY 2: DADES VALLEY ⇢ TODRA GORGE ⇢ MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast, we leave Dades Valley and travel toward the Sahara Desert. Our first main stop is Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive canyons, with high rock walls rising around 300 meters. You will have time to walk between the cliffs, enjoy the cool river, and take beautiful photos.

We continue through palm groves, small Berber towns, and desert landscapes before arriving in Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes. Here, your camels will be waiting for a peaceful trek into the Sahara.

You ride across the golden dunes for about one hour and stop to watch the sunset from a high dune. In the evening, you arrive at your desert camp, where you will enjoy dinner, Berber music around the fire, and a comfortable night in a private tent under the stars.

DAY 3: A FULL DAY IN THE DESERT EXPLORING THE AREA

Wake up early to enjoy one of the most beautiful moments of the tour: sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast at the camp, we start a full day of desert discovery by 4×4.

Today, you will explore the Merzouga area beyond the dunes. We visit nomad families living in the desert, share mint tea with them, and learn about their simple way of life. We also stop in Khamlia village, known for its powerful Gnawa music, and visit interesting desert sites such as fossil areas, old mines, and panoramic viewpoints.

In the afternoon, you can relax near the dunes, walk on the sand, or enjoy the quiet desert atmosphere. This day gives you a deeper look at Sahara culture, nomad life, local music, and the peaceful beauty of Merzouga.

DAY 4: MERZOUGA ⇢ RISSANI ⇢ AGDEZ ⇢ OUARZAZATE

After a good desert breakfast, we leave the sand dunes and Merzouga. Our first stop is Rissani. This is an old city, famous for being the start of the trading routes. We visit the Souk, the local market. It is very busy on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. You can buy many spices and local things here.

We drive toward Ouarzazate. This is a long journey so we make stops. We pass Erfoud, where they make marble with fossils. Then we travel south through the Draa Valley. You will see many green palm groves and old Kasbahs all along the river. We stop at Agdez for a nice view of the Draa Valley.

We get to Ouarzazate in the late afternoon. This city is called “The Hollywood of Africa” because of the film studios. We check into your hotel. You have dinner and rest before the last day of the tour.

DAY 5: OUARZAZATE ⇢ AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH ⇢ TELOUET KASBAH ⇢ MARRAKECH

After breakfast in Ouarzazate, we begin the final day of your 5 days Morocco desert tour. You can visit Taourirt Kasbah, one of the old homes of the powerful Glaoui family, and the cinema studios if you are interested in Morocco’s movie history.

We then continue toward Ait Ben Haddou, the famous UNESCO Kasbah and one of the most beautiful historic villages in Morocco. After the visit, we take the scenic road to Telouet Kasbah, an old palace hidden in the High Atlas Mountains, known for its history, details, and mountain views.

In the afternoon, we cross the Tizi n’Tichka Pass again and drive back to Marrakech. We drop you off at your hotel or riad, where your 5 days tour from Marrakech to Merzouga ends with many memories from the mountains, valleys, kasbahs, and Sahara Desert.
