You’ll have enough time to enjoy the Sahara without rushing too much. Below is the day-by-day program, including the main stops, driving route, desert camp experience, valleys, kasbahs, and mountain landscapes you will see along the way.
DAY 1: FES ⇢ IFRANE ⇢ MIDLLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ ZIZ VALLEY ⇢ MERZOUGA
Your driver picks you up from your accommodation in Fes around 8:00 AM and starts the journey toward the Sahara. The route takes you through the Middle Atlas Mountains, with stops in Ifrane, the cedar forest near Azrou, and Midelt for lunch.
As you continue south, the landscape changes from green mountains to dry valleys and rocky desert scenery. In the afternoon, you stop at a panoramic viewpoint over the Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s most beautiful palm oases.
You arrive in Merzouga before sunset, where the road ends and the desert experience begins. From here, you ride a camel across the golden Erg Chebbi dunes, watch the sunset from the sand, and continue to your desert camp for dinner, Berber music, and a peaceful night under the stars.
DAY 2: MERZOUGA DESERT ⇢ RISSANI ⇢ TODRA GORGE ⇢ DADES VALLEY
Start the day early with sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes, one of the quietest and most beautiful moments of the tour. After breakfast at the camp, you return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and meet your driver for the road toward Dades Valley.
The first stop is Rissani, an old trading town known for its traditional market on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday. From there, the route continues through palm groves, Berber villages, and desert landscapes before reaching Tinghir and the Todra Gorge.
You will have time to walk inside the gorge, where high rock walls rise dramatically on both sides. After lunch nearby, the journey continues to Dades Valley, famous for its rocky landscapes and “monkey fingers” formations. Dinner and overnight stay will be in a hotel or riad in the valley.
DAY 3: DADES VALLEY ⇢ AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH ⇢ HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ MARRAKECH
After breakfast in Dades Valley, you start the final journey toward Marrakech. The route passes through the Valley of Roses, the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, and the palm oasis of Skoura before reaching Ouarzazate, known for its film studios and historic kasbahs.
The main stop of the day is Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most famous fortified villages. You will have time to visit the kasbah, walk through its old earthen streets, and enjoy lunch nearby.
In the afternoon, the road continues across the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with wide views of valleys, mountain roads, and Berber villages. Arrival in Marrakech is planned for the late afternoon or evening, with drop-off at your accommodation.

Yes, of course, you can bring your main luggage. Our vehicles, whether they are a 4×4 or a minivan, have enough space in the back for all your suitcases. You will get your luggage right away when you arrive at your hotel or the desert camp each night.
Yes, absolutely, you can. If you prefer not to ride the camel, please just tell your driver. We will arrange a safe 4×4 car to take you to the desert camp, and also back out the next morning, at no extra cost to you.
The days are long but full of stops. Day 1 is the longest, about 7 to 8 hours of total driving time. Day 2 is much shorter, around 4 to 5 hours. Day 3 is about 6 to 7 hours of driving. These times do not include all the stops we make for photos, sightseeing, and lunch breaks.
You will be eating mostly traditional Moroccan food. For dinner at the hotels and the camp, it is often a tagine (chicken or beef) or maybe a couscous dish, always with bread and some local soup or salad. If you have dietary requests, like for vegetarian meals, we can easily arrange that.
It is a long drive, about 7 to 8 hours driving time each day, not counting stops for lunch or photos. This Fes to Merzouga trip is fast but worth the long drive.
