Here is the day-by-day plan for your 4 days Fes to Marrakech desert tour. This itinerary shows how the journey moves from the mountains and cedar forests to the Sahara dunes, desert villages, dramatic valleys, ancient kasbahs, and finally the High Atlas road to Marrakech.
Day 1: Fes to Merzouga Desert via Ifrane, Middle Atlas and Ziz Valley
Your driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Fes in the morning for the journey toward the Sahara. The route passes through Ifrane, the cedar forest near Azrou, and the Middle Atlas Mountains before stopping for lunch around Midelt.
In the afternoon, the landscape changes from green mountains to dry valleys and palm oases. You drive through the Ziz Valley, one of the most beautiful oasis views in Morocco, before arriving in Merzouga near the Erg Chebbi dunes.
From Merzouga, you ride a camel into the Sahara and stop to watch the sunset over the dunes. The day ends at your desert camp with dinner, Berber music, and a quiet night under the stars.
Day 2: Full Day Exploring Merzouga Desert
Today is dedicated to discovering the desert life around Merzouga. After breakfast, you explore the area by 4×4, following desert tracks near the Erg Chebbi dunes and visiting small villages.
You stop in Khamlia, a village known for its Gnawa music and cultural heritage. You may also visit nomadic families living near the dunes, share traditional tea, and learn about their way of life in the Sahara.
Depending on the day and timing, the route can include Rissani and its traditional market. In the afternoon, you return to Merzouga with free time to relax, climb the dunes, or try sandboarding. Overnight stay will be in a desert camp or hotel, depending on your booking.
Day 3: Merzouga to Dades Valley via Rissani and Todra Gorge
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes before breakfast. After that, you return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 and start the drive west toward Dades Valley.
The route passes through Rissani, an old trading town with deep historical importance, before continuing toward Tinghir and the Todra Gorge. Here, you will have time to walk between the high canyon walls and enjoy one of Morocco’s most impressive natural sites.
After lunch, the journey continues to Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations, old kasbahs, and beautiful mountain views. Dinner and overnight stay will be in a comfortable hotel or riad in the Dades area.
Day 4: Dades Valley to Marrakech via Ouarzazate, Ait Benhaddou and High Atlas Mountains
After breakfast, you leave Dades Valley and travel along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing old earthen villages, palm groves, and scenic southern landscapes. The route continues to Ouarzazate, known for its film studios and desert architecture.
The main stop of the day is Ait Benhaddou, Morocco’s most famous kasbah and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will have time to walk through its old streets, see the traditional clay buildings, and enjoy the views from this historic fortified village.
In the afternoon, the journey continues across the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n’Tichka pass. The road offers wide mountain views and Berber villages before arriving in Marrakech in the evening, with drop-off at your hotel or riad.

The camel ride is usually around 60 minutes to 90 minutes. It depends on where your desert camp is located among the dunes. We make sure there is enough time to stop and watch the amazing sunset before you arrive at the camp.
You will only take a small backpack with you on the camel ride, as we mentioned before. The driver will take your big suitcases with him, and they will be safe in the vehicle. The driver will bring your luggage to the camp or your hotel after the camel ride.
Yes, of course, you can! If you do not want to ride a camel, we can arrange for a 4×4 car to take you to the desert camp. We want you to feel happy and safe, so you have this choice.
Yes, the camps, especially the luxury ones, have electricity. They usually have lights and sometimes plugs in the tents or in the public areas like the restaurant tent, so you can charge your phone and camera.
The best seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). The weather is sunny but not too hot, so it is comfortable for traveling and for the camel ride. Summer is very hot in the desert, and winter can be very cold at night.
