DAY 1: MARRAKECH CITY ⇢ HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ SKOURA ⇢ DADES GORGES

We start the desert tour from your hotel in Marrakech early, around 8 o’clock. We begin the long, long day of driving to Dades Gorges. The first part is the most beautiful part of the trip. We drive up the High Atlas Mountains. You will see Tizi N’Tichka Pass which is very high, 2260 meters. Please take your camera. We stop many times to take photos of the amazing mountain views and the small Berber villages. We continue to Ouarzazate, the city known for making films, where we will stop for lunch. After lunch, we go on to the Skoura Oasis. This place is famous for its very old Kasbahs and many palm trees. If we have time we can stop to see the Kasbah Amridil. The view of the old building with the green palm trees is beautiful. Then we drive through the Valley of Roses to arrive at Dades Gorges in the evening. This valley is famous for the Damascus rose that makes rose water. We see the strange rock formations here, some people call them “monkey fingers”. We go to your nice hotel in the Dades Valley to have a good dinner and sleep.

DAY 2: DADES GORGES ⇢ TODRA CANYON ⇢ MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast at the hotel, we continue the trip to the desert. We drive along the Dades Valley, seeing more Kasbahs and palm trees. Our first stop is Todra Gorges. These are very big canyons, with rock walls that are 300 meters high. We will stop for a short walk between the canyon walls. It is a cool place, very popular.

We drive now for some hours to Merzouga. The landscape changes. You see big open land and then, the big orange sand dunes of Erg Chebbi start to appear. We stop for lunch on the road. When we arrive at Merzouga town, we get ready for the desert adventure.

In the late afternoon, you meet your camel friend. You ride the camel for about one hour into the dunes to see the sunset. The colors of the sand are changing, it is very beautiful and a moment you will remember always. We arrive at your desert camp. You have a very good Moroccan dinner, and you listen to local music, and then you see the stars in the night sky. The sky is full of stars, very very bright.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA ⇢ RISSANI ⇢ AGDEZ ⇢ OUARZAZATE CITY

You’ll wake up early before the sun is up. The sunrise over the dunes is the best thing to see in the desert. After breakfast at the camp, you ride your camel back to Merzouga town, or if you prefer you can take a 4×4 car. We start the long trip back to Ouarzazate, but the road is different and new.

We first stop in Rissani, an important city in history. It used to be a big point for trade caravans long ago. If it is a market day (Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday) we can visit the traditional local market, the Souk. It is very authentic and a good way to see local Moroccan life, very, very local.

Then we drive to Agdez and go through the Draa Valley. This is a very long green area with thousands of palm trees. The river Draa makes this valley very special. We stop many times for photos of the Draa Valley. Finally, we arrive in Ouarzazate city, the place for films, where you will have dinner and sleep in a nice hotel.

DAY 4: OUARZAZATE ⇢ AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH ⇢ TELOUET KASBAH ⇢ MARRAKECH CITY

We eat breakfast and then we start the last day of the tour. We start by visiting the famous Kasbah Taourirt in Ouarzazate, an old house of the Glaoui family. Then we go to the main place, the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a very big fortified mud village and it is very beautiful to walk inside and see the old houses.

Ait Ben Haddou is very famous because many big movies were shot here, for example, Gladiator and the TV show Game of Thrones. After our visit and walking in the village, we have lunch in a local restaurant close to the Kasbah. A nice final lunch.

After lunch, we drive back to Marrakech. We make one more stop at the Telouet Kasbah. This Kasbah is old and partly broken but it is very interesting and it has a long history. Then we cross the Tizi N’Tichka pass again, going down this time. We arrive in Marrakech in the evening and we take you to your hotel or Riad. The tour is finished
