This city looks like a small town in Europe, sometimes people call it the “Switzerland of Morocco”. It is very clean and pretty. After Ifrane we stop at the famous Cedar Forest near Azrou. Here you can walk a little bit and see the wild Barbary Apes. They are fun to watch and take photos of.
We continue the drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains. These mountains have beautiful views and different colors. We stop for lunch in a small town like Midelt. After lunch, the landscape starts to change. We drive through the Ziz Valley. Here, you will see many date palm trees stretching for kilometers. This long green oasis is amazing to see before the desert.
We arrive in Merzouga late in the afternoon. Here you meet the camels and the guide for the desert night. You ride your camel for about one hour and half into the Erg Chebbi dunes. The sand dunes are very big and orange. You will stop to see the sun set behind the dunes. Then you arrive at the camp, have dinner and enjoy music by the fire under the stars.
DAY 2: FULL DAY IN MERZOUGA DESERT EXPLORING THE AREA
Today is all about the desert and the local life around Merzouga. After breakfast, we take the 4×4 car to explore the area near the dunes. We drive on the desert track and visit some small villages. We will visit the Khamlia village. These people came from South Africa long ago, and they are famous for their spiritual Gnawa music. You can listen to the music and see them dancing.
We drive to see some nomadic Berber people who live in their small tents. We drink traditional tea with them and learn a little about their simple life in the desert. It is interesting to see how they live. We can also visit Rissani, which is close by. Rissani has a traditional market where locals buy and sell everything. In the afternoon, you can relax, climb the dunes, or try sandboarding if you want. You sleep again in the desert camp or maybe a hotel in Merzouga, depending on your choice.

A river flows through the canyon, and you can walk easily here. It is cool and quiet inside the gorge. After lunch, we drive to the Dades Valley. The valley is famous for its special rock formations and many old Kasbahs (fortresses). We will stop to take photos and enjoy the view. We stay overnight in a comfortable hotel in Dades Gorge.
