Please look at the detailed plan for each day below. Remember, this is your trip, and you can feel free to change anything you don’t like or if you want to add something new. Maybe you want to stay an extra night somewhere? Just contact us and we can make a program that is perfect for you.
DAY 1: CASABLANCA ⇢ CHEFCHAOUEN
We start the trip by picking you up in Casablanca. Maybe we meet you at the airport or at your hotel, wherever you like to start. Our friendly driver, who speaks good English, will be there to greet you and start our drive to the north, heading for Chefchaouen. The drive is long, about 5 hours, so we stop for a break and coffee or water on the way. The driver will tell you nice stories about Morocco and answer any questions you have.
Chefchaouen is known as the Blue Pearl of Morocco. When we get there, you check into your Riad or hotel. You will see that almost all the buildings are painted blue and white, it is really nice to see it in person. People say the blue color keeps the mosquitoes away or maybe it is just a nice color, but it makes the town so special.
You will have time to walk around the old streets, the Medina, which is very quiet and beautiful in the evening. It is perfect for taking photos everywhere. You can visit the small main square and have a nice dinner at a local place before sleeping in your comfortable room.
DAY 2: CHEFCHAOUEN ⇢ FES
After eating breakfast in your Riad, we say goodbye to the blue city and drive to Fes. This drive is shorter, about 3.5 hours. It takes us out of the mountains and into the inland part of Morocco, where you see more green fields and farms.
When we arrive in Fes, the oldest Imperial City in Morocco, a local, authorized Fes guide will meet us. This guide is a professional and knows the Medina’s very, very small streets well. It is very important because it is super easy to get lost there. He will walk with you and show you the best historical spots and secret places.
We will explore the Fes Medina, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and see the famous places like the Chouara Tannery, where they color the leather, and the oldest university, Al-Qarawiyyin. You will see people working like they did hundreds of years ago. It is a very rich history experience. We will stay the night in a nice Riad inside the Medina for an authentic feeling.
DAY 3: FES ⇢ IFRANE ⇢ MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ ZIZ VALLEY ⇢ MERZOUGA DESERT
This is the biggest day for driving, so we start early after breakfast. We drive south towards the Sahara Desert. Our first stop is Ifrane, sometimes people call it “Little Switzerland” because it looks European with its special roofs. It is a quick stop for a photo.
Next, we drive over the Middle Atlas Mountains. We stop at a large cedar forest, and here you can see the funny Barbary monkeys living free in nature! They are very friendly and you can take nice pictures with them, but please do not feed them too much. We will have lunch on the road at a local place.
The landscape changes a lot. After crossing the mountains, we arrive at the beautiful Ziz Valley, which has so many palm trees, it looks like an ocean of green. In the afternoon, we reach the edge of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes in Merzouga. Here, we meet our camels and start the camel trek into the high dunes.
The camel ride takes about one hour, just in time to climb a dune and watch the truly amazing sunset. Then we arrive at our nice luxury desert camp. You will have a good dinner, and then listen to music around a campfire with local Berber drumming. Then you sleep in your private, comfortable tent under the very clear, quiet, and beautiful desert sky.
DAY 4: MERZOUGA DESERT ⇢ RISSANI ⇢ TODRA GORGE ⇢ DADES GORGE
It is worth it to wake up early to see the sunrise over the golden dunes, it is very beautiful and quiet, an unforgettable moment. After a nice breakfast at the camp, we return to Merzouga village by camel or by 4×4 car, you choose what you prefer.
We drive next to Rissani, which was an important trading center in the past, and we can visit the traditional market there if it is a market day (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday). Then we continue to the Todra Gorge. These are huge, high walls of rock, and the river runs between them. We will walk there for a bit to enjoy the view and the fresh air.
In the afternoon, we go to the Dades Gorge. The road there is very nice with many panoramic views. We see interesting rock formations, some people call them “monkey fingers.” We check into our hotel in the Dades Valley, where dinner is included, and rest after a long day of sightseeing and traveling.
DAY 5: DADES GORGE ⇢ OUARZAZATE ⇢ AIT BEN HADDOU ⇢ HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ MARRAKECH
After breakfast, we drive along the “Road of 1000 Kasbahs.” We stop in Ouarzazate, which is famous for its movie studios, sometimes called “Hollywood of Africa.” We can stop for photos there or visit the studios if you like.
Our most important stop today is the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a very old, beautiful village made of clay and mud bricks. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and many famous movies like Gladiator used it for filming. We walk around the Kasbah and feel the history of the place.
After lunch, we cross the High Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m high). The road is winding but the views are amazing, with small Berber villages built on the mountainside. We arrive in Marrakech in the late afternoon, and our tour ends when we drop you off at your hotel or the airport, safely.

Know Before You Go:
- If you or someone in your group has an allergy (like to nuts, gluten, or milk) or a special need for food (vegetarian, vegan), please tell us right away when you book. We want to make sure the hotels and camps prepare safe and nice meals for you and your group.
- Always drink bottled water during your trip. Tap water is okay for brushing your teeth, but for drinking, please buy bottled water to keep your stomach happy and healthy. Your driver will stop often for you to buy water, so do not worry.
- The local money is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). You can use your bank card to get cash from ATM machines in the bigger cities like Casablanca, Fes, and Marrakech. Carrying some smaller cash is always good for buying small things in the markets or giving tips.
- Morocco’s weather changes a lot. In the desert, it is very hot in the day and very cold at night, especially in winter. Please pack layers of clothes so you can take off or put on things easily. Also, bring comfortable shoes for walking, especially for the desert and the old Medinas.
- Moroccan people are generally very nice and happy to see tourists. But if you want to take a picture of a local person or a street performer, it is polite to ask them first with a smile. Sometimes, they might ask for a small payment for the photo.
- This is a private tour, so we move at your pace. The days with the desert drive are long, but we stop often for breaks, stretching, and photos. Don’t worry about being rushed at all, just relax and enjoy the journey, it is not a race.
