DAY 1: MARRAKECH ⇢ HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH ⇢ OUARZAZATE

We start this first day early in the morning in Marrakech. Our driver will come to pick you up at your hotel or Riad. We drive straight towards the High Atlas Mountains. The road is very curvy and goes high up, it is a great experience. We will stop at the Tizi N’Tichka Pass, which is about 2,260 meters high, for a really nice panoramic view. You will take many photos here.

After the mountain, we drive to the very famous Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. This old fortified village is very famous. Many big international movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed here. DAY 2: OUARZAZATE ⇢ SKOURA ⇢ KELAAT M’EGOUNA ⇢ BOU THARAR ⇢ DADES VALLEY

Today, after breakfast, we start by exploring Ouarzazate a bit more. We can visit the local Taourirt Kasbah and maybe drive past the Atlas Film Studios. Then we move east to the Skoura Oasis. This oasis is beautiful, full of palm trees, and we will stop to see the Kasbah Amridil, one of the most complete kasbahs in the area. It is a very impressive old building.

We continue our drive to a town called Kalaat M’Gouna. This town is very famous for growing roses. It is called the Rose Valley. If you come in May, you can even see the Rose Festival. We will see many local rose products here like water and oil. It is a nice stop.

In the afternoon, we go into the Dades Valley. You will see amazing rock formations here, sometimes called the “monkey fingers”. We drive through the valley and see beautiful green farms along the river, with the mountain colors around us. We will stay overnight and have dinner in a hotel in the Dades Valley.

DAY 3: DADES VALLEY ⇢ TODRA GORGE ⇢ MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast in the Dades Valley, we drive to another natural wonder: the Todra Gorge. This is a very impressive place where the river cuts through the mountains, making a very high, narrow canyon. The walls of rock are over 300 meters high. We will stop to walk inside the gorge, it is a great feeling.

We drive past many palm groves and Berber villages like Touroug and Tinjdad on our way to the desert. In the afternoon, we finally arrive at Merzouga, the door to the Erg Chebbi dunes. This is where the real desert adventure starts.

From Merzouga village, we meet our camels. You will take a camel ride for about one hour, going inside the high, golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. This ride is amazing, especially when the sun starts to set. The sunset on the sand is truly magical. We reach our luxury desert camp, have a traditional dinner, listen to local music around the fire, and sleep in a nice tent under the stars.

DAY 4: A FULL DAY IN MERZOUGA DESERT EXPLORING THE AREA

Today is your special day to explore the Sahara. We wake up early to see the beautiful sunrise, it is a must-see in the desert. After a good breakfast at the camp, we explore the area around Merzouga by car. We drive on the desert tracks, seeing different landscapes.

We will visit some local places. We might visit an old eyeliner mine, and we will meet real nomadic Berber families who live in tents in the desert. This is a great chance to see their simple life. We also visit Khamlia village. This village is famous for its Gnawa musicians. They play unique spiritual African music, and you will enjoy it.

The drive is beautiful. We will stop at a panoramic point to see the Ziz Valley, a huge valley full of millions of palm trees, it looks like a green river in the dry land. We continue driving and soon the landscape changes to mountains and green forests. We enter the Middle Atlas region.
